The West Baton Rouge Museum is pleased to announce as part of our ongoing Lunchtime Lecture series, we will host Dr. Joyce Marie Jackson who will present, ‘I Just Buy What I Like’ – Backstories of the Lawrence Square Black Art Collection on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Noon.
This program is being offered in conjunction with the Square Collection exhibit on loan from Lawrence and Gay Square and will include a lecture as well as a brief conversation with collector, Lawrence Square. As a collector herself, Dr. Jackson notes that whenever possible, she always tries to meet the artists whose works she is collecting. Over the years, she and Lawrence Square have conversed about different artists they have met, pieces they have purchased, and how the black art world has changed over time. Dr. Jackson will share a few of the collector’s backstories and thoughts on collecting art.
