Edward John Searcy: Civil Rights Pioneer

The West Baton Rouge Museum will present an exhibit on Mr. Edward John Searcy, an educator and civil rights activist from West Baton Rouge Parish starting March 13th and continuing until April 27th. Mr. Searcy began teaching in West Baton Rouge Parish in 1954 and retired in May of 2010 after 55 years of inspiring the youth of who walked the halls of Port Allen High. Mr. Searcy was also a civil rights activist, helping to form the Greater West Baton Rouge Parish Improvement Association, an organization of African Americans dedicated to overcoming racial injustice in West Baton Rouge. Mr. Searcy passed away July 7th, 2010 at the age of 81.
