Mardi Gras Shipwreck: Recovered Cache c. 1812

An exhibit on loan from the Louisiana State Archeology Department features a collection of artifacts from the shipwreck that for 200 years the Gulf of Mexico kept secret. The sea guarded the ship’s carcass in darkness beneath 4,000 feet of sea water until now. Through a historic archaeological expedition and recovery effort the clues of the Mardi Gras, the working name of this mystery ship, are finally being revealed.
