Registration opens March 1st, 2023 for the Museum’s twenty-eighth annual “Blast from the Past” summer history camp series. Registration is open for campers ages 6 - 12 interested in taking an adventure through Louisiana with the help of celebrated artist, George Rodrigue (1944-2013), and his legendary Blue Dog.
This year’s theme, “A Blue Dog Adventure” is inspired by the exhibition The River is the Road: Paintings by George Rodrigue that will be on display at the West Baton Rouge Museum June 17th - October 31st, 2023. Museum staff, visiting artists, and other special guests will lead participants through a series of activities celebrating Louisiana art and culture.
Two one-week sessions are available to choose from. Blast from the Past will be offered from June 19th through June 23rd and again, June 26th through June 30th. Camper drop off is from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM and pick up is from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM in the front gravel circle driveway. Campers will need to bring a bag lunch. Snacks and drinks will be provided daily. Space is limited to 40 campers per sessions. Advanced, paid registration is required, and reservations are taken on a first come, first paid basis. The admission fee for camp is $125.00 for West Baton Rouge Parish residents or members of the West Baton Rouge Historical Association and $150.00 for all other participants.
