Join speakers Margaret Marshall and Thomas Klingler for a Lunchtime Lecture on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Noon at the West Baton Rouge Museum.
As part of an LEH/NEH grant, Margaret Marshall (retired French professor) and Thomas Klingler (Tulane University) are having digitized 200 cassettes, recorded for the Dictionary of Louisiana Creole in the 1980s and 1990s, at the Center for Louisiana Studies (ULL). This lecture will inform the public about the project and the historic, linguistic and social significance of the Vacherie and Point Coupée varieties of Louisiana Creole. Speech samples from the original cassettes will be given and discussed.
This program is free and open to the public. Masks are required and social distancing protocol will be followed.
